Here are several ways to help protect your area rugs.

Since my home has hardwood floors, I’ve always used rug pads. They go underneath the rug and prevents them from sliding around. They also have the added benefit of protecting your floors.

Regular vacuuming will also keep your 9x12 area rugslooking new, especially if the rugs are in high traffic areas. If possible, vacuum them daily to prevent buildup. Keep in mind that newer 9x12 area rugsmay need to be vacuumed more that once to get rid of fuzz. Furthermore, shaking out smaller rugs is also recommended.

To help your rugs wear evenly, it’s a good idea to rotate your rugs at least once a year. Traffic patterns and sunlight can cause uneven wear so rotating them will help.

At some point in time your 9x12 area rugswill need to be shampooed. You can have them professionally cleaned depending on the value of the rug, or you can do it yourself. There are many professional cleanersout there that will help. Most will have a foaming action which helps release the contaminants in your 9x12 area rugs. Just follow the directions on the cleaner and your area rugs will look new again.
